The 2009 Horizon Report, (Johnson, Smith & Smythe, 2009), cites mobile devices as an educational “technology to watch” and predicts they will be adopted in many schools within the next year.

Bill Gates has stated that cell phones, and not laptops, hold the most potential for the expanse of one-to-one computing especially for students with limited resources (eSchool News, 2006).

A director of an education-technology firm has stated, “We conducted a series of focus groups—high income, low income, middle…The one common element was that the students indicated that they wanted to be connected. They wanted to take advantage of a mobile device like a cell phone that would give them a support network….” (Svaboda, 2009).
